Abstract

Golden Hour refers to the first hour after birth, described as a crucial moment mainly for bonding between mother and baby and promoting breastfeeding. This research aimed to identify and describe the role of nursing in the Golden Hour, emphasizing its main actions, contributions, and challenges in this process through a systematic literature review. An integrative literature review was conducted, consulting databases such as the Virtual Health Library (VHL), including the Latin American Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS); the Specialized Bibliographic Database in the Nursing Area of Brazil (BDENF), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Google Scholar, and Pubmed. Twelve articles in Portuguese and English were selected, with full texts available for consultation. It was evident that nursing plays an important role in promoting the Golden Hour, mainly in creating bonds and skin-to-skin contact, which can generate numerous benefits for the mother and child, in addition to providing humanized care. For greater adherence to the Golden Hour in the delivery room, it was suggested to promote continuing education, adopt Golden Hour protocols, and encourage interaction between nursing professionals and other professionals in the multidisciplinary team. It was concluded that nursing assumes great responsibilities in promoting the Golden Hour and, consequently, in promoting humanized care for the mother and her child in the first hour of life.
