Abstract

This article presents a systematic review of the literature on the role of nurses in the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), emphasizing their functions, responsibilities, challenges, and contributions to patient safety. The research was conducted in scientific databases such as SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, and Google Scholar, with a selection of articles published in the last seven years. Studies addressing sterilization methods, management practices, and professional training in the CME were analyzed. The results indicate that the role of nurses is fundamental to ensuring the quality of sterilization processes, preventing hospital infections, and promoting a safe environment. The research also highlights the importance of investing in continuing education and professional development as strategies to strengthen team performance in the sector.
