Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition characterized by hyperglycemia, caused by alterations in insulin secretion or action, impacting quality of life and representing a major public health challenge. This qualitative bibliographic study examines the self-care mechanisms adopted by individuals with diabetes and emphasizes the nurse's role in patient education and guidance. Key factors for glycemic control include health education, correct medication use, physical activity, healthy eating, and emotional support. The nurse plays a crucial role in promoting patient autonomy, providing guidance, and monitoring disease management. The conclusion suggests that health education, combined with individualized care, contributes to better clinical outcomes, fewer hospitalizations, and improved quality of life for diabetes patients.
