Abstract

Childhood is a decisive stage in human development, and when experienced in contexts of social vulnerability, it becomes even more challenging. Given this, the present study aims to discuss the importance of welcoming and humanized care in nursing directed at children in situations of social vulnerability. Children living in this condition face numerous challenges that affect their access to health services and their general well-being, which requires sensitive and comprehensive action on the part of nursing professionals. Through an integrative review of the literature, the study investigated the various conditions that characterize social vulnerability, the guiding principles of humanization in care, the main obstacles faced by nurses in caring for this population, and effective strategies to ensure more welcoming and respectful care. Data analysis revealed that the adoption of humanized practices in the nursing environment not only improves the quality of care but also contributes to strengthening the bond between the child, their family, and the healthcare team. However, the study highlights that challenges related to lack of resources, professional training, and institutional conditions persist, hindering the full implementation of these practices. Thus, the research reinforces the need for public policies and educational actions that promote the humanization of care, aiming to guarantee rights and promote the integral health of children in situations of social vulnerability.
