This article aims to research linguistic fields related to the semantic domain; namely, aspects of meaning belonging to the sentence level. For the analysis, we started from Saeed's perspective in the reference work Semantics (1997). We point out elucidative descriptions about the elements situation type, tense and aspect. The conclusions reinforce the fact that sign languages are natural and legitimate, to the detriment of any interpretation that points to them as rudimentary or inferior to oral languages. We emphasize that the research prevents a stigmatized point of view about Libras and corroborates it as an effective communication instrument for deaf Brazilians to exercise their citizenship.
