PREVALENCE AND PROFILE OF WORK ACCIDENTS IN BRAZILIAN HOSPITAL CARE IN THE PERIOD 2003-2022: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Abstract

Objectives: To determine the prevalence and investigate the profile of work accidents in hospital care in Brazil. Methods: This is a systematic review of the last twenty years, carried out in the Virtual Health Library (MEDLINE, LILACS); SciELO and PUBMED. The studies selected were those published from 2003 to 2022, with hospital care workers in Brazil as the target population. Results: Scientific productions were concentrated in the areas of Nursing and occupational medicine; in the state of Rio Grande do Sul; The target professionals of the research were health professionals. The prevalence of workplace accidents varied between 2.19% and 52.5% and the incidence between 19.0 and 60.2 per 1000 workers; typical accident with sharps through percutaneous injuries in 100% of articles; nursing technicians and assistants in (85.7%) studies and female in 100% of publications. Conclusions: From the study we can conclude that typical accidents with sharp objects on fingers and hands among the nursing team are the most frequent.
