PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS IN THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF POST-LIPOSUCTION FIBROSIS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

The increased demand for plastic surgeries, such as liposuction, highlights the importance of postoperative physiotherapy to optimize recovery, improve aesthetic results, and prevent complications such as fibrosis. The objective of this study is to conduct a review of the current literature on physiotherapeutic interventions used in the prevention and treatment of post-liposuction fibrosis. To this end, an integrative literature review methodology was adopted, in which a search was conducted in the PubMed, PEDro, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, and BVS databases. Initially, 43 articles were identified, with 9 selected for the final sample. The reviewed studies demonstrate that dermatofunctional physiotherapy, including manual lymphatic drainage, therapeutic ultrasound, lymphatic taping, combined therapy, myofascial release, radiofrequency, and kinesiotherapy, is effective in the prevention, reduction, and management of postoperative liposuction fibrosis, improving pain, edema, and tissue texture. Despite the positive results, the need for further research is highlighted, especially on less explored techniques, to optimize protocols and keep pace with the constant growth in demand for aesthetic procedures.
