Abstract

Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a severe viral disease caused by mutations of feline coronavirus (FCoV), characterized by systemic inflammation and granulomatous lesions affecting multiple organs. Among its complications, thromboembolism stands out as a significant condition that may result in cardiac, respiratory, or neurological impairment. This study aims to review the pathophysiology of thromboembolism associated with FIP, as well as its clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic strategies reported in the literature. This is a literature review addressing the use of the antiviral GS-441524, anticoagulants such as low-molecular-weight heparin, antiplatelet agents, and supportive care measures. Current evidence suggests that early recognition of thromboembolic complications, combined with appropriate therapeutic management, may reduce mortality and improve clinical outcomes in affected cats. The integration of viral infection control with targeted management of the prothrombotic state represents a relevant therapeutic approach to optimize prognosis in cats with FIP.
