DENTAL IMPLANTS IN PATIENTS WITH OSTEOPOROSIS: A NARRATIVE REVIEW OF CURRENT EVIDENCE ON PRIMARY STABILITY, OSSEOINTEGRATION, AND CLINICAL PROTOCOLS

Abstract

This study addresses the clinical feasibility of dental implant placement in patients diagnosed with osteoporosis, focusing on aspects of primary stability, osseointegration, and the surgical and prosthetic protocols adopted in these cases.Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone condition characterized by decreased mineral density and deterioration of bone microarchitecture, which may compromise the success of implant-based rehabilitation, especially in regions with predominantly trabecular bone, such as the maxilla. The objective of this study is to critically analyze recent scientific literature regarding the applicability and clinical adaptations required to ensure positive outcomes in osteoporotic patients undergoing implant therapy. The adopted methodology will be a narrative literature review, using a bibliographic approach grounded in articles published between 2018 and 2022 in databases such as PubMed, Web of Science,SciELO, and Google Scholar. Studies directly addressing the relationship between osteoporosis,primary stability, osseointegration, and specific clinical protocols will be included. The expected results include the systematization of evidence highlighting the need for individualized planning, the use of implants with specific macrogeometry, the application of techniques such as osseodensification, and greater caution with prosthetic loading. It is concluded that osteoporosis, although a clinical challenge, can be safely managed through evidence-based conduct, contributing to the functional and esthetic rehabilitation of patients with systemic bone impairment.
