CORRELATION BETWEEN SCROTAL CIRCUMFERENCE AND WEIGHT DEVELOPMENT IN ANGUS BULL CALVES

Cattle farming is constantly seeking parameters that improve reproductive efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of scrotal circumference on the muscular and structural development of Angus steers (n = 62) raised in an extensive system in the Campos Gerais region of Paraná. Measurements of the variables: body weight, scrotal circumference, and rump height were taken monthly in calves aged 4 to 18 months over a 12-month period. Descriptive analyses showed a high and positive correlation between scrotal circumference and the variables age (r = 0.9739), body weight (r = 0.9886), and rump height (r = 0.9485). The coefficient of determination for scrotal circumference as a function of age was R² = 0.9831, resulting in the equation: y = 0,1804x2 + 0,3875x + 17,545, which allows predicting scrotal circumference at any age within this range.
