SUICIDAL BEHAVIOR IN PATIENTS TREATED IN GENERAL HOSPITALS: CHALLENGES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION IN HOSPITAL CARE

The study analyzes suicidal behavior in patients treated in a general hospital, highlighting the challenges faced by health professionals and the role of the hospital psychologist in providing care for these cases. Its objective is to understand risk and protective factors, discuss the difficulties encountered by the multidisciplinary team, and propose strategies for reception and intervention. It adopts a literature review methodology, qualitative and descriptive in nature, based on scientific articles published in the last five years in national and international databases. The results indicate that technical unpreparedness and stigma still hinder the management of suicide risk, compromising continuity of care. The findings show that humanized reception, qualified listening, and interdisciplinary action strengthen prevention and reduce recurrence. It is concluded that professional training and integration among health services are essential for promoting life and reducing mortality.
