Abstract

Obesity, classified in ICD-10 under code E66, is defined as a clinical condition characterized by excessive accumulation of body fat in relation to height and weight, which can impair health and increase the risk of chronic diseases. It generally results from a combination of genetic factors, poor eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, psychological and environmental factors. This highlights the importance of natural products, specifically the use of products obtained from medicinal plants, known as phytotherapeutics. Nationally regulated by the National Health Surveillance System (SNVS), phytotherapeutics have significant potential as a complement to conventional interventions in the treatment of obesity. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the use of phytotherapy in the weight loss process. The inclusion criteria were articles published in reliable databases from 2015 to 2025. Controlled descriptors (DeCsMeSH) with Boolean search operators AND and OR were used, with the following keywords: "Weight loss"; "Phytotherapy"; The results of the study on "Obesity," which were submitted to the PubMed, SciELO, and ScienceDirect databases, conclude that herbal remedies have significant potential as an adjunct to conventional interventions in the treatment of obesity. However, their use should always be accompanied by professional guidance, and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits remains essential for achieving and preserving long-term results.
