Abstract

Ocular hypertension is defined as elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) without structural damage to the optic nerve or visual field defects. Although often asymptomatic, this condition is an important risk factor for the development of glaucoma. This study aimed to analyze, through a systematic review, the main therapeutic strategies used in the management of ocular hypertension. A total of 108 studies were identified, of which 10 met the inclusion criteria. The methodology followed PRISMA guidelines, with searches conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Medline Ovid, and SciELO. The selected studies addressed the use of hypotensive eye drops, combination therapies, surgical interventions, monitoring devices, and personalized approaches. The results showed that early and individualized IOP reduction is associated with a lower rate of progression to glaucoma. It is concluded that effective management of ocular hypertension requires a multifactorial approach, treatment adherence, continuous risk assessment, and integration of technologies that enhance precision and therapeutic compliance
