Abstract

Objective: To biomechanically compare two forms of triceps tendon repair (isolated transosseous suture versus transosseous suture associated with a metallic anchor). Method: The tests involved triceps tendon repairs in 8 forelimbs of goats, equally divided into the two repair type subgroups, and subjected to pull-out forces measured with a tensiometer. Result: The study concludes that the combined repair (transosseous suture associated with an anchor) was biomechanically superior to the isolated transosseous suture, although it acknowledges limitations such as the absence of tests in humans. Conclusions: Although there is no consensus on the best surgical repair technique for distal triceps injuries, the greater biomechanical resistance of the repair is a decisive factor for early rehabilitation and overall therapeutic success. Thus, the greater biomechanical resistance of the combined repair has the potential to generate greater benefit compared to the isolated repair technique.
