Abstract

This paper addresses electrostimulation as a fundamental therapeutic tool in speech-language pathology, highlighting its history, physiological foundations, technological advances, clinical applications, safety and ethical guidelines, case studies, challenges, limitations, and future prospects. Electrostimulation uses electrical impulses to activate muscles and nerves, promoting functional rehabilitation in speech, voice, and swallowing disorders such as dysarthria, dysphagia, and vocal cord paralysis. Advances in devices, integrated with technologies such as biofeedback, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality, have enabled more precise, personalized, and effective treatments. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of ongoing training for healthcare professionals and ethical and safety rigor in clinical application to optimize results and ensure patient well-being. The study brings together scientific evidence and practical examples that demonstrate the potential of electrostimulation in speech-language pathology rehabilitation, pointing to paths for improvement and innovation in the field.
