This study analyzed the effects of laparoscopic colectomy, highlighting its effectiveness in reducing postoperative complications in patients undergoing colon resection. The laparoscopic technique, being minimally invasive, offers several advantages over open colectomy, such as lower rates of infections, respiratory complications, and adhesion formation. The aim of this work was to comprehensively evaluate the benefits provided by this technique, considering aspects such as complication reduction, recovery time, postoperative pain, and economic impact on the healthcare system. The methodology involved a narrative review of the main evidence available in the current literature, including comparative studies and case reports examining the clinical and socioeconomic outcomes of laparoscopic colectomy. The results indicate that laparoscopy leads to faster recovery, less need for analgesics, and shorter hospital stays, which contributes to better allocation of hospital resources and a lower overall cost of treatment. Despite the observed benefits, challenges remain, such as the need for adequate infrastructure and specialized training for widespread implementation of the technique. Future studies should focus on the feasibility of laparoscopic colectomy in public healthcare settings and the analysis of its long-term impacts.
