Abstract

Hereditary Cutaneous Asthenia in Horses is a rare hereditary disorder of connective tissue characterized by alterations in the production or organization of collagen, resulting in excessively fragile, elastic and lesion-prone skin. This condition has been associated with genetic mutations that compromise the structural integrity of the dermis, directly affecting the quality of life of affected animals. Its diagnosis is made through histology or PCR and there is no palliative treatment for the disease, only palliative care and, in more severe cases, euthanasia is indicated. The objective of this study is to record the occurrence of hereditary regional dermal asthenia in a female horse, one year and four months old, a case that occurred in the region of São Luís de Montes Belos, as well as to report the clinical findings, diagnostic methods used and outcome of the case. The study aims to highlight the importance of detailed knowledge about the disease for more effective management of cases and for the implementation of preventive measures in reproductive management.
