TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF HEPATITIS C

Introduction: Inflammation of hepatocytes characterizes hepatitis, whose origin can be autoimmune, viral, alcoholic or toxic. The HCV virus, the causative agent of hepatitis C, has six main genotypes, with a predominance of type 1 at the global level. Transmission occurs through contact with contaminated blood, practices such as sharing syringes and the use of medical-hospital materials without adequate sterilization. Diagnosis uses serological tests to identify antibodies and molecular tests to detect viral RNA and monitor the response to treatment. Genotyping guides the definition of the therapeutic regimen. Objective: To analyze technological advances with traditional methods in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C. Methodology: The research is a literature review with a descriptive approach, the following databases were consulted: MEDLINE, SCIELO, BVS and LILACS. Results: Advances such as rapid tests, RT-LAMP, genomic sequencing, digital platforms for therapeutic monitoring, direct-acting antivirals, combination therapies, interferon-free regimens, experimental vaccines, and nanotechnology were identified, expanding sustained virological response rates and access to treatment. Final considerations: the integration between diagnostic and therapeutic innovations redefines the management of hepatitis C, reduces morbidity and mortality, and projects the possibility of elimination as a public health problem, requiring continuity of research and expansion of screening and treatment policies.
