Abstract

Neosporosis is a parasitic disease of global importance, caused by the protozoan Neospora caninum, which primarily affects cattle and dogs, potentially leading to significant reproductive losses in livestock. In cattle, it is one of the main causes of abortion and stillbirth, while in dogs the parasite causes severe neuromuscular disorders. Transmission can occur transplacentally or through the ingestion of oocysts shed in the feces of infected dogs. Diagnosis is based on serological and molecular methods, and control depends on biosecurity and sanitary management measures. This work aims to review the etiological, epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and preventive aspects of neosporosis in veterinary medicine, highlighting its relevance in the context of One Health.
