Cancer can be described as a chronic process which develops in several stages and is characterized by an uncontrolled growth of cells that invade tissues and organs. Treatment for this condition depends on your staging and may be surgery, radiotherapy or drug, access to quality care becomes the best option. This research aimed to then know the experience of life of cancer patients in the city of Sao Luis - MA. This subject is considered of great interest to all those working in health, it has great social relevance since large numbers of people find themselves in the situation of patients with terminal cancer. The methodology adopted was the phenomenological qualitative approach, type of research life story that saw the participation of 15 clients Aldenora Bello Institute. With the results of this study, it was possible to experienced feelings, change of daily routine and support sought by patients who were diagnosed with cancer. It was found that the discovery phase requires sensitivity and support from professional and family as it is at this stage that the patient is more unprotected, insecure and anxious. It was also observed that the family plays a fundamental role for the acceptance and recovery of the patient. Pain in turn was actually present in the speeches, illustrating the difficult routine that the client faces daily. Faith, portrayed by all respondents, shows up as a foundation to face this phase of treatment, in which case, the only hope of cure that the client can grab. With the above, one can make reflections that we, as members of the health team, we can weigh what is important for the patient at this stage of treatment, seeking to improve our care, giving priority to make this quality, effective and humane.
