Abstract

This article addresses the Modern Art Week of 1922 and the poetic expression of the first phase of Brazilian Modernism. We aim to highlight the importance of the urban space in this process and will support the discussion through the use of relevant literary criticism. Subsequently, as a means of exemplification and to deepen the debate, we will analyze the poem “Os cortejos” by Mário de Andrade, published in Pauliceia desvairada (1922), the first literary work of the Modernist movement in Brazil.
