Abstract

The analysis of human bite marks is a crucial area in forensic dentistry, playing a significant role in the identification of sex offenders. The importance of this technique is accentuated when integrated with other forensic methods and evidence, contributing to the effective resolution of cases. This study aimed to identify the relevance of human bite mark analysis in identifying sex offenders. The research adopted an integrative literature review approach, analyzing case studies and empirical evidence related to human bite mark analysis. This type of study allowed the identification of techniques used, challenges faced, and contributions of this practice in the forensic context. Twenty-seven articles were found, and seven articles were selected for the study. The studies reviewed highlighted the significant contribution of bite mark analysis in solving crimes, providing concrete evidence essential in identifying offenders. Advanced techniques, including 3D analysis, were identified as tools that increase accuracy in comparing bite marks and suspects' dental models. It was possible to conclude that the analysis of human bite marks is a valuable tool in identifying sexual offenders, despite inherent challenges such as the temporal degradation of injuries. The proper application of this technique in the forensic context requires continuous improvement of techniques and specialized training of professionals. The research highlights the relevance of this practice in the administration of justice, consolidating its role in the forensic scenario.
