The search for agility and cost reduction in constructions can compromise the integrity of the coating system when the base preparation layer is suppressed, without taking into account its importance in the adhesion of subsequent layers. The elimination of this layer can result in future problems in the coating system, due to the lack of adhesion between the base and the plaster or single mass. Thus, this article aims to highlight the relevance of roughcast as a base preparation layer and the need for its proper application to ensure the efficiency of the coating system. The low quality of buildings built in the last two decades is due to failures in design, execution and maintenance, compromising the habitability, safety and durability of the buildings. The reduction in useful life is aggravated by failures that affect stability and functionality, such as structural problems or problems in vertical seals, directly impacting the performance and durability of buildings.
