PEDAGOGICAL WORKSHOP AS A STRATEGY FOR CONTENT DEVELOPMENT FOR THE iKoDoMo METHOD

Objective: To develop and analyze pedagogical workshops to support content development for the iKoDoMô method with martial arts teachers working with early childhood (ages 3–5). Methods: Intervention study comprising two workshops (2017) with nine martial arts teachers from Fortaleza (Brazil), experienced in early childhood instruction. Data were collected through guiding questions, audio recordings, and field notes. Materials underwent thematic content analysis (Bardin), including definition of recording and context units, coding, and categorization. Results: Thematic categories highlighted cognitive and motor development, socialization, family–school mediation, safety, ongoing teacher development, and pedagogical grounding. Teachers reported perceived psychomotor, behavioral, and socioemotional gains through play-based martial arts activities, alongside challenges involving family communication, adequate spaces, engagement management, and instructional organization. Conclusion: The workshops enhanced teachers’ pedagogical understanding of early childhood in martial arts contexts and guided the creation of an educational handbook for the iKoDoMô method, supporting safer, theory-informed practices and constructive family engagement.
