PREVENTIVE MEDICINE IN PRIMARY CARE AND THE BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL CONTEXT

Preventive medicine represents one of the main pillars of Primary Health Care (PHC), promoting a comprehensive approach that seeks not only disease prevention but also biopsychosocial well-being. This narrative review analyzed scientific publications from 2007 to 2024 in the PUBMED, LILACS, and SCIELO databases, using the descriptors “preventive medicine,” “primary health care,” and “biopsychosocial context.” Of the 159 articles initially identified, only eight met the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results show that preventive medicine, when applied under a biopsychosocial perspective, enhances the effectiveness of health actions by integrating biological, psychological, and social factors into clinical practice. This integration strengthens the relationship between healthcare teams and patients, reduces inequalities, and contributes to a more humanized and resolutive care model, reaffirming the essential role of PHC as a cornerstone of the health system.
