Aesthetic procedures have been gaining popularity due to technical advancements and the growing influence of the media, which promote the pursuit of aesthetic perfection. Another point worth highlighting is social pressure, where the quest for acceptance results in an increase in the number of procedures, especially among women, who are more likely to resort to these practices due to idealized beauty standards. Literature shows that physical appearance has a profound impact on self-esteem. The relationship between aesthetics and self-image is fundamental to well-being, and many women are seeking aesthetic interventions to improve their self-perception and alleviate feelings of dissatisfaction with their appearance. However, the pursuit of aesthetic procedures is also associated with the risk of complications, making it essential to choose a qualified professional who must evaluate the patient individually, clarifying expectations and risks. This study reviews the literature on the determining factors in the choice of aesthetic treatment, highlighting the influence of the media, social pressure, and the psychological factors involved. It also addresses the positive impact of these treatments on self-esteem. It can be concluded that aesthetic procedures, when performed responsibly and professionally, can contribute to increased confidence and quality of life, but it is essential that the patient has realistic expectations and is well informed about the risks involved.
