LEAD IN AUTOMOTIVE WHEELS: BETWEEN MECHANICAL BALANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMBALANCE

Abstract

What balances a car can unbalance the planet. Lead, widely used in automotive balancing, remains a silent villain: toxic, persistent, and capable of compromising both human health and the environment. This study combines a systematic review, based on the Methodi Ordinatio methodology, and field research in workshops in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, to expose the reality of this hidden problem. The results reveal that, despite the existence of safer alternatives, lead remains prevalent, often disposed of improperly. The research not only highlights the risks but also points to paths for a sustainable transition, highlighting the urgent need for public policies, innovation, and cultural change in the automotive sector. More than a warning, this work is a call to action for a future balanced between mobility and sustainability.
