NURSING CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA: LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder in which nursing plays a fundamental role, contributing to therapy and facing challenges in the care process. Objective: To identify aspects related to the work of nurses with people with schizophrenia in the literature. Method: A literature literature review was conducted using articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish from the Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Nursing Database (BDENF), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Index Psicologia and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online (Medline). Results: Based on the guiding questions, the results pointed to several insertions, including: comprehensive care, teamwork, direct patient care, psychosocial rehabilitation, management of disease symptoms, continuous stress, disease characteristics, lack of trained staff, bonding, and guidance about the disease. Conclusion: The role of the nurse in the care of patients with schizophrenia is of great importance, even considering that many challenges still need to be overcome, however, the professional performance in the care management process provides the patient with continuity beyond the drug treatment, mainly passing through relational care as a complement to medication, however, to which constant training is considered in the sense,  to contribute to the optimal management and treatment of schizophrenic patients and their families.
