The incidence of pancreatic cancer has been increasing, as risk factors, which were previously predominantly genetic, have now been affected by 21st-century lifestyles. Factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and unhealthy diets, for example. Given this, there is a worrying scenario, as it is one of the most lethal neoplasms of the digestive system. Furthermore, the symptoms are often vague, making early diagnosis difficult. Abdominal pain, which is a symptom indicative of the disease, is only present in advanced stages, which delays diagnosis and impairs prognosis. Furthermore, screening is recommended only for individuals with a family history, while diagnosis is based on tests such as ultrasound, tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and the CA19-9 marker. Regarding surgical treatment, duodenopancreatectomy is a complex surgery associated with high complication rates. Robotic surgery, which came as an innovation, has shown promising results, with fewer complications and faster recovery. Through a literature review of current scientific articles available in CAPES, SciELO, and Pubmed journals, we aim to better understand the risk factors, symptoms, and surgical approaches that could improve the treatment outcomes of this disease.
